Diamond Colour, Clarity & Cut Explained Simply

Choosing a diamond can feel overwhelming. There’s a lot of terminology, a lot of numbers, and a lot of opinions. At Chupi Jewellery, we believe choosing your diamond should feel reassuring, not intimidating.

That’s why we work to the very highest standards, so you don’t have to second-guess your choice. Every natural diamond we use, and every lab-grown diamond too, is independently certified by GIA or IGI. These are the world’s most trusted diamond authorities, ensuring your diamond’s colour, clarity and cut are exactly what we promise.

Let's break it down in plain English!

Our Diamond Colour: D–F Only

The Highest Diamond Colour Grades

Diamond colour refers to how white a diamond appears. The scale runs from D (the whitest) down to Z (where yellow or brown tones become visible).

At Chupi, we only work with D–F colour diamonds, the highest colour grades possible for natural diamonds.

Think of it like a glass of water. A D–F diamond is crystal clear. No tint, no warmth, no yellow. Just pure, icy brightness. This matters because the whiter the diamond, the more light it reflects, giving you that unmistakable sparkle that feels clean, crisp and timeless.

In simple terms: D–F diamonds look brighter, rarer, and more luminous. There’s nothing distracting the eye, just light doing its thing beautifully.

Our Diamond Clarity: VS or Better

Diamond clarity describes tiny natural marks formed as the diamond grows deep within the earth.

These are called inclusions, and most diamonds have them. We only select diamonds with VS clarity or higher. VS stands for “Very Slightly Included,” which means any inclusions are so small they’re invisible to the naked eye.

If you’re looking at your diamond without a microscope, you won’t see any flaws. Not now. Not ever.

Why does that matter? Because clarity affects how light moves through the diamond. Fewer inclusions means light travels cleanly, making the diamond sparkle more evenly and beautifully. You get all the brilliance, with none of the distractions.

Our Diamond Cuts: Ideal to Excellent

Cut is the most important factor in how a diamond looks. Not the shape, but how precisely it’s cut.

This determines how light enters the diamond, bounces around inside it, and reflects back to your eye.

At Chupi, we only work with Ideal to Excellent cut diamonds. Imagine a mirror that’s perfectly angled to reflect light back at you. That’s what a great cut does. If the angles are even slightly off, light leaks out the sides and the diamond looks dull.

An Ideal or Excellent cut means maximum sparkle, fire and brilliance. It’s the difference between a diamond that quietly glows and one that truly comes alive.

Sourcing Diamonds, Just for You

While we hold ourselves to the highest standards as default, we also know that some stories call for something completely bespoke.

If you’re looking for a diamond with specific grading, proportions, or characteristics, we can source it for you.

Our team would love to work with you one-to-one, guiding you through the options and helping you bring your ring to life in a way that feels deeply personal, meaningful, and entirely yours.

Because the right diamond isn’t just about numbers. It’s about how it makes you feel when you see it for the first time. ✨💍
