Five Ways To Find Your Partner's Ring Size

First things first - ring size is not the same as a dress size. Rings are measured in quarter millimeter increments, so guessing will also be tricky. We appreciate that finding your partner's ring size can feel like embarking on a magical quest, but at Chupi, we’ve got you covered! Whether you're planning a surprise proposal or simply want to get it right the first time, here are some of our team’s favorite ways to determine the best size for a surprise engagement ring.

1. Borrow a Ring They Wear

One of the simplest and most accurate ways to find out your partner's ring size is to borrow a ring they already wear on their ring finger. (The ring finger is the one next to the pinky!) This method works best if the ring is worn on the same finger as the engagement ring will be (in Ireland that is the left hand). But not all women will wear rings on this finger (it's kind of a superstition not to put a ring on it, until you put the ring on it!), so a ring she wears on the other ring finger can do for a close match.

2. Enlist the Help of Friends or Family

If you want to keep the proposal a surprise, enlist the help of your partner's friends or family. They can subtly ask or find a way to borrow one of their rings for sizing. Often, they might already know the size or have easy access to this information.

3. Use Chupi’s Online Ring Sizer Tool

For a more secretive approach, Chupi offers a handy solution at ringsizer.chupi.com. Our online tool guides you through finding a fit from the comfort of your home. Simply follow the step-by-step instructions to ensure the engagement ring size is just right.

4. Trace or Cast a Ring They Own

If borrowing a ring isn’t an option, you can still use one of their rings for comparison. Place one of their rings on a piece of paper and trace the inside. Alternatively (if more elaborately!), let a tea candle burn to melt the wax and as it starts to reharden, press a ring from your partner’s collection into the wax. We can use the outlines from either of these methods to estimate the ring size.

5. Ask Directly in a Clever Way

If subtlety isn't your strong suit or you suspect your partner might have an idea about the upcoming proposal, you could ask them directly in a clever way. This can be done by discussing future plans and preferences casually, which can naturally lead to the topic of ring sizes.

Ensuring the engagement ring fits will add a little extra sparkle to your special moment, so whether you’re trying out one of the above, or just winging it, our best advice is to size up a little larger than you think. At Chupi Jewellery, we are dedicated to making your proposal as magical as possible, and all engagement rings come with a complimentary resizing service to ensure a perfect fit so you can focus on creating an unforgettable memory.
