Kristen's fiancé Sean lost her number four times, but each time summoned up the courage to ask for it again, kicking off a love story that would see him proposing to her in the beautiful and historic Alhambra gardens in Granada, Spain, with an unforgettable You, Me & Magic grey diamond ring seven years later.
On taking it slow
Sean: Kristen and I had known each other since our early teens – it was only as we got older we started connecting more.
Kristen: Sean was my brother's friend for years. It took us about six years to even consider the possibility of being together!
On early impressions
Kristen: I thought Sean was very shy, but I knew there was more to his personality than he was showing.
Sean: Kristen has a strong personality so I was quite taken aback by how easy we got along once we got chatting.
On knowing it was love
Kristen: When he lost my number four times in a row but used a different platform of communication each time to get it again! The dedication really made it for me.
Sean: When I lost her number for the fourth time and still built up the courage to ask for it again…
On picking the perfect moment
Kristen: Sean proposed to me in February in the Alhambra, Granada. I was obsessed with the orange trees everywhere in Granada because we don't have them in Dublin.
Sean waited until we were in the Alhambra Gardens under about six orange trees overlooking the city to propose – he made sure we took an early tour so there would be no one around and it would be just us. I can't look at an orange without remembering it!
The whole thing was a bit of a blur; Sean really sprung it on me and I was not expecting it at all! I think the best part was when he told me he had been carrying the ring around all weekend trying to find the perfect spot to propose. It was an absolutely magical way to celebrate our seven-year anniversary!
On finding the perfect ring
Sean: When we were in the Chupi store I was looking for something that made her face light up when she tried it on. She can be a bit clumsy so we wanted a subtle and delicate ring that can be worn every day! The You, Me & Magic was exactly that.
Kristen: We visited the Atrium in October '21 and had an amazing experience. It was so fun to try on pieces and get expert advice in the process. Sean managed to secretly grab the details from the store on our way out and purchased the ring online a month later.
I have always admired the uniqueness of Chupi's pieces, as well as the fact it is an Irish woman-owned business. It's always been my dream to purchase some pieces from Chupi. My engagement ring is my first Chupi piece and it definitely won't be the last!
I was in awe when I saw the ring for the first time, I couldn't believe how gorgeous and perfect it was. It is a unique diamond with an amazing sparkle to it, subtle and timeless.
On building an heirloom collection
Kristen: I want to have an event or memory attached to each item of jewellery I own.
I love hearing my grandparents and parents tell stories about their jewellery when someone compliments a piece – I've always thought it is beautiful that they can relive these experiences through their jewellery and heirlooms and also share it with others.
On a tip for engaged couples
Enjoy every second and celebrate every little moment. There is no such thing as celebrating major life milestones too much!
We are still celebrating a month later with friends and family. It is such a lovely time in life, don't forget to put aside some time to celebrate alone with each other too.
