This week, we caught up with Laura and Ryan. From a fleeting but momentous first meeting to an intimate candlelit proposal, here they share the most important chapters of their modern love story.

On first meetings
When we first met, we couldn't keep our eyes off each other. It felt like meeting someone I had always known. Our first meeting was brief but it made a lasting impression. So much so that when we reconnected five years later (during yet another Canadian Covid lockdown), from the moment he walked in my door, I knew he was the one.
On knowing it was forever
I always say I knew from the first date, when he walked in my front door. It felt like everything fell into place. For Ryan, he says he knew on the second date when he had the same feelings with more intensity. Both of us describe it as just "being right." By the third date, we were already talking about marriage. We just knew it was inevitable.
On favourite traits
I love our ability to communicate no matter what and our deep appreciation for each other. We constantly thank each other for the little things which just goes such a long way in feeling like what we do is recognized by the other.

On the proposal
Our proposal actually happened after we had set a date to get married! Ryan and I have always been unconventional in the way we do things. We decided we didn't want a big wedding or long, drawn-out engagement, we were going to do the thing – even if we weren’t yet engaged. So we set a date and have decided to have our own version of a wedding, our Happily Ever After party.
But I did still wonder when he was going to propose. I had been out for the day and when I came home (through the same front door he walked through 2 years ago), he was on one knee with candles everywhere and the beautiful pink Chupi box in hand. He said that the moment he walked through that door, he knew there was something special between us and he can't wait for us to open up new doors together, forever.

On seeing the ring
I cried when I saw it! It was perfect. The link to the ring had been my top Google search for a month so to see it in person was just breath-taking. I still find myself taking a few minutes every morning just to look at it on my hand.
On the details that mattered most
I'm an incredibly sentimental person – for me, our love story has always been uniquely us and that has meant the most to me. I knew I wanted my dream ring but getting it from my dream man made it all just feel right.

On choosing Chupi
I fell in love with Chupi for the sentimental value behind the pieces. I knew that if I ever found “the one”, my dream was to have a Chupi ring.
