In the next installment of The Chupi Engagement Series , we speak to Michael and Joe from The Bearded Candle Makers who tell us the brilliant story of how they met, and how they kept their engagement a secret for nearly a year!
“I’m Michael and my fiancé is Joe. (I love sayin that!) We met on Instagram, Joe had been following me and my business for ages. Then out of the blue I got a message from him saying “I think it’s about time you ask me out for a coffee..” and I thought… This guy is awesome! Our first few dates lasted for ever, our second date latest around 9 hours! ”
The Engagement
“We actually talked about marriage after only a few months. Pretty much straight away, we knew we were right for each other. We were sitting on a park bench in Belfast’s Botanic Gardens in the sunshine, holding hands and Joe just said, we are going to get married, right? Honestly it could not have been more perfect!”
“We didn’t tell anyone for almost a year before we made it official. We had that whole time, knowing we were going to be married and it was just awesome! Then once we wanted to make it official, as soon as I seen the Love is an Ocean rings I knew they were the ones. I surf and we both love the ocean and spent a lot time on the west of Ireland. It’s a second home to us now. When I read that the cast was from a piece of driftwood found there.. It could not have been more perfect!”
“We have one each in white gold as engagement rings and we think the yellow gold version would be perfect for the wedding bands too! That or the Hawthorn band . I’ve never been into jewellery but I am obsessed with this. I cannot stop looking at it. I love that such a beautiful piece can represent so much! ”
Wedding Plans
“We are aiming to get married next summer over in Sligo. There’s a pub we love and thought it would be perfect. We will have candles EVERYWHERE ! Bring in amazing catering, some wonderful music, surrounded by our nearest and dearest… And maybe even get married on the beach.”
“We bought the rings in the store . These ones in particular are so textured and gorgeous that I wanted to see and feel them. Although to be honest, once I seen them online I pretty much knew that was what I wanted. The store is just gorgeous and I am in love with the brand. I look to Chupi as the success story that really inspires me to keep going. Supporting Irish makers and companies is something very important to me and I really take a lot of joy purchasing from people I admire and follow.”
