Meet the latest couple in our series: Kevin & Catherine who got engaged in New York earlier this year. New York is one of our favourite cities, it has such a special place in our hearts. Chupi was meant to travel to New York this week for lots of exciting meetings, but had to cancel due to the current situation. We hope to be back in NYC very soon, and in the meantime we’re sharing one of our favourite engagement stories in this special place. We’re thinking of all of our darling customers in New York and around the world at this time, stay safe and mind yourself.
Catherine and I first met back in June of 2015 nearly 5 years ago now! A friend of mine had been going out with a friend of Catherine’s, so I had noticed her before. I will admit we are a typical modern love story, meeting because of a right swipe on Tinder!
On our first date we went out for dinner and she made me laugh like no girl ever had before. She had a care free attitude and a smile that would light up a room. Our road was far from easy, but Catherine brought out the best version of me and I’m proud to say she’s the woman that made me the man I am today. She has this incredible way of making a person want to be better and do better and undoubtedly makes me thrive for more and more every single day.
I knew I wanted to marry Catherine after that first date, there was no doubt in my mind. Catherine has talked about Chupi for years so there was no question when it came to the engagement ring , it would be from Chupi. From the moment I went into the Chupi store to purchase the ring, the girls were amazing and so helpful giving me advice and tips on how to carry out the perfect proposal.
After taking a couple of photos in Central Park, I got down on one knee. The look on her face is one I will never forget, we laughed, we cried and she said YES!
I booked New York as a Christmas present for Catherine, we had went a few years back and she absolutely loved it so I knew this would be the perfect place. I wanted to propose the day after we landed, but of course we hit the tiles the first night out in the big apple and Catherine had one too many leading to an almighty hangover on the Sunday morning, the day of the planned proposal.
It took a hell of a lot of coaxing to get her to eat the breakfast Mc Muffin and extra large coffee to kill the hangover and get her to hit the streets of New York, but we got there in the end. My plan was to propose in Brooklyn overlooking the Manhattan skyline (I’ve attached a photo of when I eventually got her there 5 days later) but Catherine declined to “trek all the way across to Brooklyn”. So plan B was in action. It was Central Park in a little place called the point which I had googled a number of weeks before, and good job I did as plan B was needed.
So off we went to Central Park in our walk, she wanted to do everything but actually go to Central Park lol but I finally got her there. After taking a couple of photos, I got down on one knee. The look on her face is one I will never forget, we laughed, we cried and she said YES! We called our family and friends and had champagne brunch at The Plaza Hotel. It was just the most perfect day and made even more perfect by proposing with her dream You Me & Magic Morganite and Diamond ring from Chupi.
We have set our date for the wedding – December 2021 at Harvey’s Point in Co. Donegal. We are so excited to start all the planning and of course to choose our wedding bands at Chupi.
