At the beginning of this year, our team received a heartfelt message from a kind woman who had an extraordinary find in the Wicklow Mountains. During a weekend hike and just off the beaten track, she saw a tiny pink Chupi box nestled amongst the foliage. Inside, she discovered a stunning blue sapphire engagement ring. Worrying if it had fallen out of a pocket and hoping to reunite the ring with its owner, she waited nearby for over an hour, but no one came by searching for it.
Determined to do the right thing, this woman took the ring home and reached out to us for guidance. We advised her to report the find to the local police and check lost and found boards in her area. We also assured her that if no one came forward, she should contact us again.
In April, this wonderful woman visited our flagship store on Clarendon Street, bringing the ring with her. With no forthcoming owner, we decided to share the story across our social media channels, hoping to reach the rightful owner. We had previously reunited a couple with their lost wedding ring, and we were hopeful for a similar outcome this time.
While we didn’t know the specific history of this Chupi engagement ring, we could tell it had been purchased more than a year ago, as it was housed in one of our older archive boxes.
The response from our community was incredible. People shared the story widely, each post echoing the hope of finding the owner of the engagement ring. Remarkably, just a day later, we succeeded.
Jewellery marks some of life's most significant moments. It speaks of love and loss, of strength and solace and all that we encounter on in life's imperfect journey. Although we all wished for a fairytale ending, life’s reality can be more complex.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who helped in the search, especially to the amazing Treasa, who initially found the ring. Her integrity and kindness exemplify the spirit of community and hope.
There aren’t many places in the world where a lost sapphire ring would find its way back to its owner so safely. This story speaks volumes about the character of Ireland and its people.
